Terms of Use

By creating an account or using any part of the Afokato platform, you agree to these Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy, and any additional terms that may apply to specific features. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.

You must be at least 18 years of age to use Afokato. Egyptian residents only may register as clients. To register as a lawyer, you must be a currently licensed member of the Egyptian Bar Association. By registering, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information during registration and keep it current. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

Afokato is an electronic directory and intermediary platform. We facilitate connections between clients seeking legal help and licensed lawyers. We do not: provide legal advice, represent clients in legal matters, endorse or recommend any specific lawyer, guarantee the outcome of any legal matter, or accept responsibility for the quality of legal services provided by lawyers listed on the platform. Any legal service you receive is provided directly by an independent, licensed lawyer — not by Afokato.

We verify lawyers' Egyptian Bar Association registration status at the time of onboarding. This initial verification does not constitute an ongoing guarantee of a lawyer's standing, conduct, or competence. We encourage clients to independently verify credentials and read reviews before engaging any lawyer.

By posting reviews, consultation requests, or other content on the platform, you grant Afokato a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and use that content as part of our services. You represent that all content you submit is truthful, accurate, and does not infringe any third-party rights. Afokato reserves the right to remove content that violates these terms or applicable law.

Submitting a consultation request through Afokato does not create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship is established only when a lawyer explicitly agrees to represent you and you accept their terms of engagement. Consultation request details you submit are shared with the lawyer(s) you contact and may be used by them to respond to your inquiry.

You must not: use the platform for any unlawful purpose; submit false, misleading, or fabricated content, reviews, or credentials; scrape, copy, or reproduce platform content without our written permission; attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the platform's technical infrastructure; impersonate any person or entity; harass, threaten, or abuse other users or lawyers; or use automated tools to access or interact with the platform.

All content, branding, design, code, and data on the Afokato platform — excluding user-generated content — is owned by or licensed to Afokato and protected by Egyptian and international intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from platform content without our prior written consent.

The Afokato platform is provided 'as is' and 'as available' without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose of lawyer profiles or other content on the platform.

To the maximum extent permitted by Egyptian law, Afokato's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the platform shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total fees you have paid to Afokato in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) EGP 500. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind.

In the event of a dispute, we encourage you to contact us first at [email protected]. We will attempt to resolve disputes amicably within 30 days. If direct resolution fails, disputes shall proceed to mediation before a mutually agreed mediator in Cairo. If mediation fails, disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the competent courts of Cairo, Egypt.

These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, including the Electronic Transactions Law No. 15 of 2004, the Consumer Protection Law No. 181 of 2018, and the Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020.

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms of Use, engage in fraudulent activity, or if continued operation of your account poses a risk to other users or the platform. You may request account deletion at any time by contacting [email protected] or through your dashboard settings.

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes at least 7 days before they take effect by email and by posting a notice on the platform. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
